Greece does not negotiate its right to defend its territory, Varvitsiotis says

“Greece does not negotiate its right to defend its national territory” underlined Alternate Foreign Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis in an interview with Parapolitika radio on Wednesday.

Specifically, he said that “we do not negotiate the self evident, there is no issue concerning the demilitarisation of the islands, this is not an issue for negotiation”.

On the imminent exploratory talks with Turkey, Varvitsiotis stressed that there is no change to Greece fixed position, namely that its sole difference with Turkey is that of delimitating the maritime zones.

He also added that “the object of the exploratory talks is whether we can agree to resolve this difference that exists between us through a joint decision to take it before the International Court of Justice.”
