Greece not expected to need fourth programme, Oettinger says

The European Commission does not consider that Greece will need a fourth bailout programme after the current programme ends in the summer, European Commissioner for the EU Budget G√ľnther Oettinger said in statements before the European Council meeting in Brussels.

“We consider that the Greeks will return to the markets in the near future,” Oettinger said, noting that Greece must cover any future financing needs by tapping fresh money from the markets.

Given the slight economic recovery in Greece, he noted, experts believe the country will not need the entire amount of 86 billion euros available under the third financial assistance programme.
