Greece taking all necessary actions for servicemen held in Turkey, says Tzanakopoulos

The case of the two Greek soldiers detained in Turkey will not become an “endless political thriller,” government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos predicted on Tuesday, noting that Greece is doing everything necessary at all levels regarding this issue.

Speaking to SKAI TV, Tzanakopoulos said that the possibility of the two Greeks facing espionage charges would be an extreme scenario, given that there was no indication of such a thing. He expressed hope that Turkey will handle the issue with respect for international law and not escalate the situation.

Moreover, he said that the judicial process underway in Turkey must be respected and did not exclude the possibility that Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras may contact Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan if necessary.
