Greece to activate new financing tools and funds for the circular economy

The Greek government will soon activate new financing tools and funds to support a circular economy in the country, vice-president of the government and Economy and Development Minister Yiannis Dragasakis said on Monday, addressing the 1st Circular Economy Forum in Athens.

He noted that the government’s policy on the circular economy was based on four pillars: a Holistic Development Strategy, a National Action Plan for a Circular Economy, a National Strategy for Adjusting to Climate Change and a National Action Plan for Greek Public Procurements. He added that for the financing of the circular economy the government will mobilise the National Development Bank, disbursing funds from a Green Fund to promote environmental actions, including two new actions by May, and new tools and funds that are to be activated soon.

Dragasakis stressed that the country needed to find a new sustainable economic model and noted that the big challenge for Greece was a timely and efficient preparation for the period 2021-2027 and the new decade in 2020-2030.
