Greece’s MWC18 pavilion showcased country’s exports in innovation, technology

Greece is an exporter of innovation and technology and not just one of the world’s most attractive tourist destinations. That was the message successfully delivered by the country through its national pavillion in the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

This year’s presence in the MWC was upgraded as the country was represented also in the 4YFN event organised for startup businesses. Visitor numbers were increased compared with previous years, while a large number of visitors showing interest in the technological solutions and innovations presented by the Greek companies participating in the congress. MWC officials said Greece should exploit the increased visitors’ interest in its pavilion to further strengthen the support of extrovert businesses exporting innovation.

MWC said that 480 business meetings held in the Greek pavilion and the 4YFN, of which 20 pct were expected to result in partnership agreements. Meetings were held with delegations from the US, Russia, Canada, Sweden, Spain, Argentina, Turkey, Estonia, China, France, Brazil, Invest in Bavaria, Invest in Great Britain, Enterprise Holland, The Hague Business Agency and Catalunya’s innovation organisation.

Greece’s first participation in 4YFN also presented exceptional results for Greek startup enterprises, with more than 40 meetings held with candidate customers or publishers, accelerators and incubators from Finland and Spain.

Pfizer, the pharmaceuticals giant, expressed strong interest in the creation of a game to be used to offer information to patients over their treatment in cooperation with Traptics. Voice of America expressed the intention to cooperate with Happyland Entertainment, with the latter presenting its activities to an investor.

Costas Chaniotis, president of the Hellenic Association of Mobile Applications Companies (HAMAC), and managing director Yiannis Yiannarakis said: “Greece moved up the ladder into another category in MWC18 and confirmed our slogan “Greece Scales Up”, expressing the dynamism of Greek innovation companies”.
