Greek Foreign Ministry welcomes extension of US-Russian New START treaty

Greece “welcomes the agreement between the United States and Russia to extend the New START treaty, a key element for European and global security,” said the Foreign Affairs Ministry on social media on Wednesday.

On Twitter, the Greek ministry said, “The agreement constitutes an important step in international efforts on arms control and in preserving global peace and stability.”

Earlier on Wednesday, US State Secretary Antony Blinken announced that the United States and Russia have agreed to extend the treaty for the further reduction and limitation of strategic offensive arms through February 4, 2026.
