Greek industrial production down 1.7 pct in January

Greek industrial production fell 1.7 pct in January this year despite a 6.4 pct increase in manufacturing production, Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Monday.

The statistics service, in a monthly report, said that the industrial production index fell 1.7 pct in January compared with the same month last year, after a 7.1 pct increase recorded in the 2017/2016 period and attributed this development to a reduction of electricity production by 23.3 pct and water production by 4.3 pct. On other hand, mining production jumped 22.1 pct and manufacturing production rose 6.4 pct (reflecting a 28 pct rise in alcohol production, a 16.2 pct rise in pharmaceuticals, a 23.1 pct increase in computer/opticals, a 24.1 pct rise in machinery and a 19.7 pct increase in furniture).
