The inflation rate in Greece was unchanged in April, compared with April 2017 (after an 1.6 pct increase recorded in the 2017/2016 period), although the consumer price index rose slightly on a monthly basis due to price increases in clothing/footwear, petrol, pharmaceuticals and heating oil, Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Thursday.
The statistics service attributed the April performance of the consumer price index to price declines of: 1.0 pct in food/beverage, 0.4 pct in clothing/footwear, 1.2 pct in housing, 1.8 pct in durable goods, 1.3 pct in entertainment and 1,3 pct in other goods and services. Price increases were recorded in alcohol/tobacco (3.3 pct), health (0.1 pct), transport (1.6 pct), communications (3.3 pct), education (0.2 pct) and hotel/restaurant/coffee (1.4 pct).
The consumer price general index rose 0.9 pct in April from March 2018, after a 0.6 pct increase recorded in the corresponding period last year.
Greece’s harmonised inflation rate grew 0.5 pct in April compared with the same month in 2017 and rose 1.0 pct in April from March 2018.
