Greek MEPs stage demo calling for return of Greek soldiers held by Turkey

In a demonstration in support of the two Greek soldiers being held in a Turkish prison without charge, after they accidentally strayed across the border on patrol, Greek MEPs on Tuesday gathered in the main chamber of the European Parliament holding photographs of the two soldiers and placards demanding that they be freed by Turkey.

The issue has been raised at the European Parliament as a violation of human rights, democratic freedoms and a breakdown in the rule of law, through proposed resolutions that will be discussed at the European Parliament plenum on Tuesday and put to a vote on Thursday. According to Greek MEPs, there is a generally supportive attitude to Greece’s position on Turkey in the EuroParliament.
