Greek president gets briefed about fires at Fire Brigade operations center

Greek President Katerina Sakellaropoulou paid a visit to the Fire Brigade’s Coordinating Operations Center in the northeastern suburb of Halandri on Friday, as fires broke out or expanded throughout Greece.

Sakellaropoulou was briefed by Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chryssochoidis, Deputy Civil Protection and Crisis Management Minister Nikos Hardalias, and chiefs of the Fire Brigade over the catastrophic fires in the country.

“At these critical times, our thoughts and support is for our fellow humans who are suffering and in danger,” she said, adding that “we owe gratitude to the firefighters, the security forces, the armed forces and the volunteers who with exemplary self-sacrifice are raising a wall of protection for us.”

Much great and small things must be done, but “now we must all show self-restraint and unity; our priority is our country,” she noted.
