Greek retail sales volume grew 2.6 pct in September, boosted by increased sales in bookstores and department stores, Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Wednesday.
The statistics service, in a report, said the bookstore sales grew 9.8 pct in the month, department store sales rose 6.7 pct, supermarket sales were up 5.0 pct, pharmaceutical/cosmetics rose 0.6 pct. On the other hand, sales fell in food/beverage/tobacco (3.4 pct), fuel/lubricants (0.5 pct) and clothing/footwear (0.5 pct).
The retail sales volume index (turnover in fixed prices) rose 2.6 pct in September compared with the same month last year, but fell 4.3 pct from August 2016. The seasonally-adjusted index rose 1.8 pct in September from August.
The retail sales turnover index (current prices) grew 1.7 pct in September from September 2015, but fell 0.8 pct from August 2016. The seasonally-adjusted turnover index was up 1.0 pct in September from August 2016.
