Greek stocks edged higher in the Athens Stock Exchange during a session which was interrupted for almost one hour due to technical problems. The composite index of the market rose 0.16 pct to end at 586.24 points, off the day’s highs of 590.58 points. The Large Cap index rose 0.14 pct and the Mid Cap index rose 0.92 pct. Turnover was a low 29.462 million euros in volume of 37,331,474 shares.
PPC (2.91 pct), GEK Terna (1.98 pct) and Motor Oil (1.88 pct) scored the biggest percentage gains of the day among blue chip stocks, while Aegean Airlines (1.97 pct) and Eurobank (1.65 pct) and OPAP (0.78 pct) suffered heavy losses. Among market sectors, Utilities (1.55 pct), Oil (1.42 pct) and Personal Products (1.15 pct) scored big gains, while Chemicals (2.34 pct), Technology (1.33 pct) and Travel (0.89 pct) suffered losses. National Bank and Eurobank were the most heavily traded securities of the day.
Broadly, decliners led advancers by 53 to 37 with another 19 issues unchanged. Progressive (19.51 pct), Frigoglass (18.64 pct) and Elinoil (15.12 pct) were top gainers, while Trastor (19.92 pct), Sidma (19.43 pct) and Pegasus (19.32 pct) were top losers.
