Greek stocks end slightly lower on Thursday

Greek stocks ended slightly lower in the Athens Stock Exchange on Thursday as the market was unable to fully absorb a wave of selling activity which hit blue chip stocks, despite support offered by a rise in Coca Cola HBC shares.

The general index eased 0.12 pct to end at 817.66 points, with the Large Cap index rising 0.36 pct and the Mid Cap index falling 0.60 pct. Turnover was a low 54.1 million euros in volume of 35.4 million shares. Coca Cola H+BC (2.29 pct) and Motor Oil (1.55 pct) scored gains among blue chip stocks, while PPC (4.22 pct) and Athens Water (2.21 pct) suffered losses. Among market sectors, Food/Beverage (2.30 pct) and Oil (1.15 pct) scored gains, while Technology (1.84 pct) and Commerce (1.76 pct) suffered losses. National Bank and Alpha Bank were the most heavily traded securities of the day. Broadly, decliners led advancers by 62 to 51 with another 126 issues unchanged. Kanakis (7.22 pct), Selonda (6.63 pct) and Centric (6.62 pct) were top gainers, while Mathios (14.67 pct), Ilyda (8.72 pct) and Mermeren (8.72 pct) were top losers.
