Greek stocks ended flat in thin trading conditions in the Athens Stock Exchange

Greek stocks ended flat in thin trading conditions in the Athens Stock Exchange on Tuesday, as the market lacked fresh incentives and directions. The general index rose 0.09 pct to end at 837.77 points, after falling as much as 1.02 pct during the session.

The Large Cap index rose 0.11 pct and the Mid Cap index eased 1.35 pct. Turnover was low 43.634 million euros in volume of 30,664,841 shares. Piraeus Port (1.71 pct), OTE (1.53 pct) and Titan (1.53 pct) scored big gains among blue chip stocks, while Viohalco (1.55 pct), PPC (1.49 pct) and Lamda Development (1.40 pct) suffered heavy losses. Among market sectors, Telecoms (1.53 pct) and Travel (1.06 pct) scored gains, while Technology (1.77 pct) and Health (1.32 pct) suffered losses. National Bank and Eurobank were the most heavily traded securities of the day. Broadly, decliners led advancers by 69 to 39 with another 29 issues unchanged. Lavipharm (19.80 pct), Sidma (19.74 pct) and Yalco (17.36 pct) were top gainers, while Varvaresos (19.64 pct), Progressive (19.13 pct) and Chatzikraniotis (13.29 pct) were top losers.

The March contract on the FTSE/ASE Large Cap index was trading at a premium of 0.43 pct in the Athens Derivatives Exchange on Tuesday. Volume on the Large Cap index totaled 1,890 contracts with 13,631 open positions in the market. Volume in futures contracts on equities totaled 24,010 contracts with investment interest focusing on MIG’s contracts (7,537), followed by Alpha Bank (491), Piraeus Bank (2,001), Eurobank (3,035), National Bank (5,498), OTE (905), PPC (1,056), ADMIE (144), OPAP (329), Hellenic Exchanges (212), Viohalco (243), Mytilineos (253), Hellenic Petroleum (119), GEK Terna (187), Ellaktor (760), Intralot (273), Intracom (146), Terna Energy (209) and Cenergy (130).

Greek bond market closing report

The yield spread between the 10-year Greek and German benchmark bonds eased to 3.71 pct in the domestic electronic secondary bond market on Tuesday, from 3.77 pct the previous day, with the Greek bond yielding 4.36 pct (4.41 pct on Monday) and the German Bund yielding 0.65 pct. Turnover was a strong 10 million euros, all buy orders.

In interbank markets, interest rates were largely unchanged. The 12-month rate was -0.191 pct, the nine-month rate was -0.223 pct, the six-month rate was -0.271 pct, the three-month rate was -0.327 pct and the one-month rate was -0.372 pct.
