Greek stocks ended moderately higher on Tuesday

Greek stocks ended moderately higher in the Athens Stock Exchange on Tuesday, pushing the general index of the market back above the 810 point level. The index rose 0.58 pct to end at 810.75 points, off the day’s highs of 811.76 points. The Large Cap index rose 0.65 pct and the Mid Cap index eased 0.64 pct. Turnover was 53.015 million euros in volume of 41,850,293 shares.

Piraeus Bank (2.94 pct), Eurobank (2.47 pct) and Titan (2.39 pct) scored big gains, while Attica Bank (17.95 pct), ADMIE (1.46 pct) and Viohalco (0.90 pct) suffered heavy losses. Among market sectors,
Personal Products (1.82 pct), Constructions (1.50 pct) and Banks (1.45 pct) scored big gains, while Health (1.27 pct) and Industrial Products (0.78 pct) suffered losses. Attica Bank and National Bank were the most heaviest traded securities of the day. Broadly, decliners led advancers by 52 to 49 with another 25 issues unchanged. ANEK (20 pct), Leventeris (19.69 pct) and GEKE (18.44 pct) were top gainers, while Haidemenos (22.27 pct), Naftemporiki (19.77 pct) and Attica Bank (17.95 pct) were top losers.

The September contract on the FTSE/ASE Large Cap index was trading at a premium of 0.05 pct in the Athens Derivatives Exchange on Tuesday. Volume on the Big Cap index totaled 2,042 contracts with 5,204 open positions in the market. Volume in futures contracts on equities totaled 112,240 contracts with investment interest focusing on National Bank’s contracts (23,985), followed by Alpha Bank (7,650), Piraeus Bank (22,625), Eurobank (13,349), MIG (14,414), OTE (1,516), PPC (868), ADMIE (2,454), OPAP (1,312), Hellenic Exchanges (602), Viohalco (2,537), Mytilineos (2,747), Hellenic Petroleum (1,245), GEK Terna (1,596), Ellaktor (7,199), Jumbo (627), Piraeus Port (136), Grivalia Properties (163), Intralot (320), Athens Water (397), Terna Energy (1,331), Folli Follie (153) and Cenergy (1,504).

Greek bond market closing report

The yield spread between the 10-year Greek and German benchmark bonds eased further to 5.12 pct in the domestic electronic secondary bond market on Tuesday, from 5.18 pct the previous day, with the Greek bond yielding 5.50 pct (5.51 pct on Monday) and the German Bund yielding 0.38 pct. Turnover was an improved 5.0 million euros.

In interbank markets, interest rates were mixed. The 12-month rate was -0.1668 pct, the nine-month rate was -0.218 pct, the six-month rate was -0.272 pct, the three-month was -0.331 pct and the one-month rate was -0.372 pct.
