Greek stocks ended sharply lower in the Athens Stock Exchange on Thursday pushing the general index of the market below the 800-point support level. The index dropped 2.35 pct to end at 790.97 points, with the Large Cap index falling 2.42 pct and the Mid Cap index ending 2.98 pct lower. Turnover was an improved 65 million euros in volume of 70.2 million shares.

Fourlis (1.15 pct), Lamda Development (0.30 pct) and Mytiilneos (0.12 pct) scored big gains, while National Bank (7.27 pct), Alpha Bank (6.40 pct) and Ellaktor (5.66 pct) suffered heavy losses among blue chip stocks. Among market sectors, Raw Materials (0.12 pct) and Commerce (0.08 pct) scored gains, while Banks (5.61 pct) and Health (4.70 pct) suffered losses. National Bank and Attica Bank were the most heavily traded securities of the day. Broadly, decliners led advancers by 90 to 26 with another 124 issues unchanged. Leventeris (18.08 pct), Nakas (17.07 pct) and Ilyda (13.04 pct) were top gainers, while Profile (10.13 pct), Viokarpet (10 pct) and Unibios (9.18 pct) were top losers.
