Greek stocks ended slightly lower in the ASE on Tuesday

Greek stocks ended slightly lower following a similar trend in international markets in the Athens Stock Exchange on Tuesday. Traders said buying activity for bank shares which prevailed late in the session managed to reduce the market’s earlier bigger losses.

The general index eased 0.13 pct to end at 779.45 points, off the day’s lows of 767.17 points. The Large Cap index rose 0.19 pct and the Mid Cap index ended 2.12 pct lower. Turnover was a low 44.023 million euros in volume of 42,218,425 shares.

Eurobank (4.23 pct), National Bank (2.91 pct) and GEK Terna (1.23 pct) scored big gains among blue chip stocks, while OPAP (3.12 pct), Lamda Development (2.19 pct) and OTE (2.09 pct) suffered heavy losses. Among market sectors, Banks (1.98 pct) and Food (0.85 pct) scored gains, while Health (6.17 pct) and Financial Services (2.79 pct) suffered losses. National Bank and Eurobank were the most heavily traded securities of the day. Broadly, decliners led advancers by 73 to 36 with another 30 issues unchanged. Kiriakoulis (29.41 pct), Euromedica (20 pct) and Dionic (20 pct) were top gainers, while Douros (20 pct), Varagis (19.82 pct) and Sato (19.23 pct) were top losers.
