Greek stocks ended slightly lower in the Athens Stock Exchange on Friday

Greek stocks ended slightly lower in the last trading session of the week in the Athens Stock Exchange on Friday, pushing the composite index of the market below the 640-point level. Turnover remained at very low levels as investors remained on the sidelines awaiting fresh news from negotiations between the Greek government and its creditors.

The composite index eased 0.52 pct to end at 639.16 points, after rising as much as 0.27 pct early in the day. The index ended the week with a net loss of 1.92 pct for a decline of 0.70 pct so far this year. The Large Cap index eased 0.66 pct and the Mid Cap index ended 0.24 pct lower. Turnover was a thin 38.163 million euros in volume of 41,982,164 shares.

Motor Oil (1.87 pct), Titan (1.35 pct) and Mytilineos (0.80 pct) scored the biggest percentage gains of the day among blue chip stocks, while Jumbo (6.47 pct), Piraeus Bank (1.52 pct) and National Bank (1.25 pct) suffered losses.

Among market sectors, Oil (1.25 pct) and Construction (0.87 pct) scored big gains, while Personal Products (5.22 pct) and Technology (1.85 pct) suffered losses.

Piraeus Bank and National Bank were the most heavily traded securities of the day. Broadly, decliners led advancers by 54 to 51 with another 21 issues unchanged. Varvaresos (19.32 pct), Revoil (11.76 pct) and AXON Holdings (11.11 pct) were top gainers, while Eurobrokers (20 pct), GE Demetriou (17.65 pct) and Sato (16.90 pct) were top losers.

The February contract on the FTSE/ASE Large Cap index was trading at a premium of 0.21 pct in the Athens Derivatives Exchange on Friday on its debut after the end of the January contract. Volume on the Big Cap index totaled 2,409 contracts with 6,330 open positions in the market. Volume in futures contracts on equities totaled 33,241 contracts with investment interest focusing on Piraeus Bank’s contracts (13,989), followed by Alpha Bank (3,110), National Bank (9,260), Eurobank (5,143), MIG (260), OTE (268), PPC (152), OPAP (122), Mytilineos (443), Jumbo (188), Folli Follie (74) and Intralot (54).
