Greek stocks ended slightly lower in the Athens Stock Exchange on Tuesda

Greek stocks ended slightly lower in the Athens Stock Exchange on Tuesday as profit taking selling in bank shares was partly counterbalanced by selective buying in blue chip stocks such as PPC, Titan and Mytilineos. The general index of the market eased 0.15 pct to end at 776.02 points, off the day’s lows of 772.17 points.

The Large Cap index eased 0.19 pct and the Mid Cap index ended 2.17 pct lower. Turnover was moderate 62.079 million euros in volume of 78,874,802 shares.

Mytilineos (2.96 pct), Grivalia Properties (2.70 pct) and Metka (2.38 pct) scored big gains among blue chip stocks, while Piraeus Bank (4.35 pct), Alpha Bank (2.35 pct) and National Bank (2.22 pct) suffered heavy losses. Among market sectors, Raw Materials (2.96 pct), Real Estate (2.02 pct) and Industrial Products (1.55 pct) scored big gains, while Financial Services (2.67 pct) and Banks (1.75 pct) suffered losses.

Piraeus Bank and National Bank were the most heavily traded securities of the day. Broadly, decliners led advancers by 58 to 50 with another 34 issues unchanged. Moda Bagno (25.70 pct), Nikas (19.82 pct) and Crete Domiki (19.44 pct) were top gainers, while Alpha Astika (20 pct), Lanakam (19.96 pct) and Naftemporiki (18.92p ct) were top losers.

Greek bond market closing report

The yield spread between the 10-year Greek and German benchmark bonds eased afresh to 5.65 pct in the domestic electronic secondary bond market on Tuesday, from 5.71 pct the previous day, with the Greek bond yielding 5.94 pct (6.0 pct on Monday) and the German Bund yielding 0.29 pct. Turnover was a thin 5.0 million euros.

In interbank markets, interest rate were mixed. The 12-month rate fell to -0.133 pct from -0.132 pct, the nine-month rate rose to -0.181 pct from -0.182 pct, the six-month rate was -0.254 pct, the three-month rate rose to -0.328 pct from -0.332 pct and the one-month rate rose to -0.371 pct.

The June contract on the FTSE/ASE Large Cap index was trading at a premium of 0.17 pct in the Athens Derivatives Exchange on Tuesday. Volume on the Big Cap index totaled 1,956 contracts with 5,915 open positions in the market. Volume in futures contracts on equities totaled 63,747 contracts with investment interest focusing on Piraeus Bank’s contracts (31,331), followed by Alpha Bank (2,488), National Bank (10,698), Eurobank (12,774), MIG (2,579), OTE (242), PPC (1,221), OPAP (156), Titan (239), Viohalco (263), Mytilineos (691), Hellenic Petroleum (134), Terna Energy (173), Ellaktor (93), Intralot (95) and Cenergy (301).
