Head of European lawyers group looks into detainment of Greek soldiers in Turkey

President of the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE), AntonĂn Mokry, has sent a letter to the lawyers representing the two Greek soldiers that have been detained in a Turkey prison for nearly three months.

In the letter, Mokry points out that he has taken action after being contacted over the issue by the representatives of the Plenary of all Greek Bar Associations, and is asking the two Turkish lawyers whether the soldiers have been charged, and if so, what with.

He also points out that “fundamental rights must be secured during the whole process, according to international standards. More particularly, the right to a fair trial must be secured, as foreseen by article 6 of the European Convention for Human Rights.”
