Health Min Kikilias: Ages between 20 and 50 lead the current number of coronavirus infections

The country’s health system, especially in Attica, is at the end of its tether, said Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias at Wednesday’s live briefing on the pandemic’s course.

Those aged between 20 and 50 lead the current number of coronavirus infections, said Kikilias.

The minister praised the extraordinary efforts to strengthen the national health system, mentioning that an average hospital of 200 beds fills out with Covid-19 patients every day.

He announced that as of Wednesday the hospital ‘Errikos Dinan’ (Henri Dunant) and ‘Sismanogleio’ general hospital will both be on rotation call for Covid-19 patients, while another two private clinics have offered to provide beds for Covid patients.

A 7.62 pct of the Greek population has received the first dose of the vaccine and a 3.64 pct has been inoculated with both doses, he noted.

At the briefing, Attica Region Director Giorgos Patoulis, who is also president of the Athens Medical Association, reiterated Kikilias’ call to fellow doctors to respond to “the national effort” and help the Attica health services cope with the overload of infections.
