Hellenic Statistical Authority: Greek industrial production up 8.7 pct in March

Greek industrial production grew 8.7 pct in March this year, while manufacturing production rose 8.6 pct in the same period, compared with the corresponding month in 2016, Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Wednesday.

The statistics service, in a monthly report, said the industrial production index was down 3.6 pct in March 2016 and attributed this year’s development to a 34.3 pct jump in mining production, an 8.6 pct rise in manufacturing production (reflecting a 24.7 pct production rise in oil/coal, 17.9 pct in pharmaceuticals, a 25.9 pct rise in base metals, an 18.8 pct increase in metal products, a 16.5 pct rise in computers/optical products), a 4.8 pct rise in electricity production and a 0.4 pct rise in water production.

The average industrial production index was up 8.9 pct in the first quarter of 2017, compared with the same period last year, while the seasonally-adjusted index fell 2.0 pct in March from February 2017.
