Hellenic Statistical Authority: Greek retail sales volume up 2.3 pct in June

The volume of retail sales in Greece rose 2.3 pct in June compared with the same period last year, with most shop categories reporting higher sales in the month.

Sales rose in furniture-home appliances (9.9 pct), bookstores (9.9 pct), clothing/footwear (8.9 pct), fuel/lubricants (4.2 pct) and supermarkets (3.5 pct). On the other hand, sales fell in department stores (17.9 pct), pharmaceuticals/cosmetics (2.6 pct) and foods/beverages/tobacco (0.2 pct).

The Hellenic Statistical Authority, in a monthly report, said that the retail sales volume index (turnover in fixed prices) grew 2.3 pct in June compared with the same month in 2018, but jumped 9.6 pct compared with May 2019. The seasonally-adjusted index rose 2.5 pct in June from May.

The retail sales turnover index (turnover at current prices) rose 2.3 pct in June compared with June 2018, but rose 10.7 pct in comparison with May 2019. The seasonally-adjusted index rose 2.7 pct in June from May 2019.
