Retail sales volume grew 0.1 pct in August this year, despite a decline in fuel sales during the peak of the summer season, Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Tuesday.
The statistics service, in a monthly report, said that the volume of sales grew 7.5 pct in bookstores, 3.0 pct in pharmaceuticals, 3.0 pct in furniture/home appliances, 1.3 pct in clothing/footwear and 0.2 pct in department stores. On the other hand, sales fell 3.1 pct in fuel/lubricants, 1.5 pct in tobacco/alcohol and 0.2 pct in supermarkets.
The statistics service said that the retail sales volume index (turnover in fixed prices) grew 0.1 pct in August compared with the same month in 2016, but fell 2.7 pct from July 2017. The seasonally-adjusted index fell 3.3 pct in the August-July 2017 period.
The retail sales turnover index (turnover in current prices) fell 0.3 pct in August compared with the same month last year and fell 3.2 pct from July 2017. The seasonally-adjusted index fell 2.8 pct in the August-July 2017 period.
