The volume of sales in retail commerce grew 3.3 pct in September this year, compared with the same period in 2017, Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Friday.
The statistics service, in a monthly report, attributed this development to a 5.9 pct increase in the sales of supermarkets, 4.7 pct in clothing/footwear, 3.9 pct in tobacco/food/beverage, 1.1 pct in furniture/home appliances and 1.0 pct in fuel/lubricants. On the other hand, sales fell 5.2 pct in department stores and 1.5 pct in pharmaceuticals/cosmetics.
The retail sales volume index (turnover in fixed prices) grew 3.3 pct in September compared with September 2017 but fell 6.2 pct from August 2018. The seasonally-adjusted index fell 0.1 pct in September from August 2018.
The retail sales turnover index (turnover in current prices) rose 4.9 pct in September compared with the same month last year, but fell 2.1 pct from August 2018. The seasonally-adjusted index was unchanged in the September-August period.
