Huge load of smuggled cigarettes at the port of Piraeus. Over 5 billion euros the unpaid customs duties

The Authorities found a huge load of smuggled cigarettes at the port of Piraeus in containers; the unpaid customs duties were more than 5 billion euros and came from Manila, Philippines.

Based on information given by the officials of the Bureau of Narcotics – Guns and other controlled data of the Financial and Economic Unit, and in collaboration with the 5th Customs of Piraeus, they identified and seized large amounts of tobacco in containers declared as “furniture”.

In particular, following a research carried out by a team of officials, with the participation of a tobacco detector dog of the “Diablo” team, three containers were found containing 30.334.000 pieces of smuggled cigarettes (10.380.000 Gold Classics and 19.954.000 Raquel); they also found a fourth container containing 250 boxes of plastic chairs. The obvious aim of the senders was to mislead the Authorities.

The unpaid duties amount to €5.550.600,21.

The research has not stopped so that the Authorities identify the actual recipients, since the data of the recipient on the shipping documents are fake.
