Jean-Claude Juncker, candidate for the presidency of the European Commission, on Tuesday said he was proud that Greece was still a eurozone member state.
Speaking at the European Parliament plenary, Juncker referred to the “Cassandras” and speculators who had bet on the breakup of the eurozone, after the outbreak of the debt crisis in Europe.
“We managed to repair a flying plane that was burning,” Juncker said underlining the successful way of dealing with the crisis.
Everybody, he said, was certain about Greece’s exit from the euro and the eurozone. We did everything we could and “I am personally proud that Greece, this great nation, this wonderful people, is still a member of the eurozone,” he concluded.
