Iliopoulos: PM addressing the nation to manage people’s anger, not save lives

Main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance spokesperson Nassos Iliopoulos on Thursday accused Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis of responding to the pandemic through words to stave off people’s anger, rather than action to save lives.

“Mr. Mitsotakis, in a dozen of addresses to the nation, is not trying to tackle the pandemic or to save human lives but the people’s rage over his resounding failure,” Iliopoulos said.

Iliopoulos also noted that the prime minister had tried to manage the pandemic “by making speeches” instead of “strengthening the national health system and supporting healthcare staff or taking measures for superspreader locations such as schools and public transport, or providing free mass testing and tracing or with a serious and targeted vaccination campaign for those he had failed to persuade…”
Concluding, he asked Mitsotakis to truthfully answer “how many people have died without access to an ICU because you made sure that the national health system would not be reinforced.”
