Independent deputy Giorgos Karras announced on Tuesday he is joining the Democratic Coalition’s parliamentary group.
In a written statement, Karras said said that developments in the last few days “confirmed that the government’s policy continues to align with Greece’s creditors in the distribution of power, while the main opposition (New Democracy) party is not convincing that it can overcome the problems.”
Karras is elected from the Second Athens district and has served as parliamentary representative for the Union of Centrists.
He is the second lawmaker to announce a change in his allegiance after Monday’s voting of the omnibus bill. Independent MP Theodora Megaloeconomou announced on Monday she is joining senior ruling coalition member SYRIZA’s parliamentary group.
