Independent lawmaker Theodora Megaloikonomou announced she is joining SYRIZA’s parliamentary group on Monday, after a vote on the prior actions Greece has to approve to complete its third program review.
Speaking to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA), the MP, who first entered parliament with the Centrists Union, explained her decision.
“The SYRIZA-ANEL government took over when the Greek economy and society were facing the biggest difficulties of the past decades. It was not responsible for them, nor was it SYRIZA who was governing for the past 40 years. In the past two years, no miracles have happened -and we didn’t expect any- but the country’s image has started to change […] I have therefore chosen to join this great effort,” she said.
Megaloikonomou voted in favour of the bill, saying it was necessary to complete the third review and exit the bailout program in August 2018.
