Italian PM: ‘I asked Erdogan to avoid military intervention in Libya’

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte on Saturday revealed that he has asked Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan not to avoid any military intervention in Libya as this will not balance out the forces involved but lead to a massive escalation of tension.

Speaking during the customary press conference at the end of the year, Conte stated that he intends to repeat his request to the Turkish president.

Talking about his recent discussion with Erdogan on the telephone, the Italian prime minister said that a ongoing dialogue was underway with the aim of reaching a political resolution, which must naturally start with a ceasefire.
