Jean-Claude Juncker meets New Democracy’s leader with Kyriakos Mitsotakis

Visiting European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker met with Kyriakos Mitsotakis, leader of the main opposition party New Democracy (ND) on Thursday.

ND sources said they met for 40 minutes and discussed the party’s ruling plans for when Greece completes its fiscal adjustment program, and Mitsotakis asked that relief options for the Greek debt go ahead without conditions, as the Eurogroup had promised in November 2012 under Juncker’s leadership.

The ND leader also said that the party has its own growth proposal that aims for investments and a reduction in taxation.

The two men also discussed the next European Parliament elections, on May 26, 2019. During the last Europarliament elections (2014), Juncker was elected president under the conservative EPP group. Its campaign leader and EPP vice president, Dara Murphy, will visit Greece on May 29 and 30.
