Justice minister on CoS ruling: Government will insist on transparency and audit

The government will insist on achieving transparency and auditing those required to submit a wealth and asset declaration, Justice Minister Stavros Kontonis told lawmakers on Monday, commenting on a Council of State ruling earlier on Monday which threw out a Joint Ministerial Decision (JMD) prescribing the content those declarations as invalid.

“This is the important part and let everyone remember this […] The government today reiterates: Let’s see who’s going to get tired [first]. The government, which will insist on transparency and audit, or all those who rally behind opaque regimes, and who will answer to the people,” he said.

Kontonis said that if exceptions creep into the law on declaring one’s wealth, then there will not be a real wealth declaration.
