Kammenos denies plans to pull out of ruling coalition over FYROM name issue

Defence Minister and ANEL party leader Panos Kammenos on Monday denied reports that his party intends to pull out of Greece’s ruling coalition government if a proposed solution to the FYROM name dispute that includes the term ‘Macedonia’ is brought to Parliament.

“There is no such news,” Kammenos said, commenting on an article published by the news website ‘real.gr’.

Citing sources, the website claimed that Kammenos “will depart as a member of the government if Parliament is asked to vote on a proposal for a compound name that also includes the term ‘Macedonia’ as a geographical or time-related qualifier, even in Slavic script.”

The Independent Greeks (ANEL) party led by Kammenos is the junior party in Greece’s coalition government, alongside SYRIZA.
