KINAL: Chemicals and violence toward the islanders can’t be the solution

Opposition Movement for Change (KINAL) spokesperson Pavlos Christidis on Wednesday put the blame on the government for the violence on Chios and Lesvos between riot police and locals protesting against the construction of closed facilities for migrants and refugees on their islands.

“The solution can never be the requisitioning of land, [tear gas] and violence toward the islanders,” said Christidis.

Speaking to SKAI TV, he noted that “these things are unprecedented, it creates citizens of two speeds and sends riot police from Athens to impose the law,” adding that these tactics will not resolve anything.

He reiterated his party’s proposal for the decongestion of the islands and noted that main opposition SYRIZA should also assume its responsibilities for the Moria refugee and migrant camp, which it was responsible for creating.
