KKE leader Koutsoumbas deplores ‘commercialisation of health’ after visit to Attikon hospital

Communist Party of Greece (KKE) General Secretary Dimitris Koutsoumbas paid a visit to Attikon hospital in west Athens on Monday, where he deplored the lack of funding and failure to hire adequate staff after finding patients being treated on gurneys in the corridors due to lack of room.

“Here at Attiko, a hospital for the people of Western Athens, before the gurneys of shame, the policy of commercialisation of health that all governments up until now had as their banner is collapsing. Here at Attiko, a front line hospital for the pandemic, are reflected all the criminal responsibilities of the government, which has not proceeded with the mass hiring of staff for public hospitals, which has not proceeded to requisition the major private hospitals to save people’s lives,” he said in a statement after talking to staff.
