Health workers will be able to apply for work as support staff through a platform that will open on September 1 for a few days, Alternate Health Ministry Vassilis Kontozamanis said during a live briefing on Monday.
September 1 is the day obligatory vaccination kicks in for all health staff in private and public sectors, with suspension of jobs for those who do not want to be vaccinated and the return of prepaid salaries. The platform will not include doctors.
Kontozamanis appealed to unvaccinated health staff to set up vaccination appointments, and asserted that the ministry had a plan to ensure the hospitals would not be affected by suspensions. The plan, he said, includes redistribution of staff per hospital, and if necessary the public sector will contract with the private sector for support services.
