Labour Min: Unemployment has been falling in past two-and-half years

Unemployment in Greece has been steadily falling in the last 2.5 years, Labour Minister Efi Achtsioglou said on Thursday during a meeting in Brussels of the Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council (EPSCO).

The minister also said that “income and social inequalities are still alarming, mainly because the wage gap between wages and productivity during the crisis has been reduced through wage cuts and not through productivity gains,” which means that employees has borne the heaviest burden.

Achtsioglou also recognized the intention expressed by the European institutions to emphasize social issues as part of the EU policy as it was expressed in the recent declaration of the European Pillar of Social Rights.
