Lausanne Treaty a ‘non-negotiable foundation stone’, gov’t spokesman says

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s interview raises serious concerns and questions, government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos said in a statement late on Wednesday night.

He stressed that “the Greek government and the Prime Minister hope that the visit will give the opportunity to build bridges, not to build walls.”

Moreover, he underlined that “respect for the Lausanne Treaty is the exclusive and non-negotiable foundation stone on which the sincere cooperation of the two countries can be built.” Statements calling for its revision, he added, “do not contribute to the climate we are trying to build in our relations and in the region.”
