A light tremor measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale jolted the island of Karpathos at 20:24 on Thursday.
The quake’s epicentre was located in the sea region southwest of Karpathos and southeast of Crete.
Professor of DynamicTectonic, Applied Geology and Natural Disaster Management Efthimis Lekkas told Athens-Macedonian News Agency that this type of earthquake is normal for the area, stressing that there is no cause for concern.
Earlier, a light earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale jolted the Ionian.
The tremor’s epicenter was located in the sea region 67km southwest of Zakynthos and its focal depth did not exceed 2.4km.
No injuries or material damages were reported.
