Major quantity of contraband cigarettes found at Piraeus port customs

Police, with the assistance of an X-RAY system and the help of a sniffer dog, have found and confiscated a large quantity of contraband cigarettes at the third customs building in Piraeus port.

The 12,500,000 cigarettes were hidden in a container alleged to contain ‘laminated flooring’ that was to be transported to another Greek port.

The losses from taxes and tariffs due to the Greek state reached 2.6 billion euros.
