Majority of pensioners will not be affected by pension cuts, says Labour minister

The majority of Greek pensioners will not be affected by the new pension cuts that will be implemented in 2019, Labour Minister Efi Achtsioglou said on Tuesday, speaking to public broadcaster ERT.

The minister said 2/3 of pensions will not be touched, noting the new measures concern only those whose pension was not previously cut in recent years. The reduction will be nine percent on average and will reach a maximum of 18 percent.

Achtsioglou also noted the positive measures included in the agreement with Greece’s lenders, such as the rent subsidy by up to 1,000 euros per year which will affect all Greeks who live in rent of have a mortgage.
