Man, 45, detained for trying to approach President Pavlopoulos

A 45-year-old man was detained at 10:00 on Monday when he attempted to get past a police barrier and approach President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopios Pavlopoulos outside the Athens Cathedral, as the president was inspecting a military honour guard after the March 25 mass.

Police said the man tried to step over a rope used as a barrier in the cathedral’s forecourt but was spotted and stopped by police. He was taken to police headquarters, where police discovered that he is a drug user and were examining him to discover his intentions.
