Attica drugs squad police on Thursday arrested a 33-year-old man arriving at Athens’ ‘Eleftherios Venizelos’ international airport after he was caught smuggling three kilos of cocaine into Greece.
The suspect had arrived on a flight from Sao Paolo via Zurich and was found to be carrying four packages of the drugs, which were carefully concealed in the lining of his luggage. Police also confiscated a mobile phone and 100 euros.
Investigating further, police discovered that the 33-year-old had been recruited to transport cocaine from South America to Greece by a 28-year-old woman, who was acting on behalf of a 42-year-old Nigerian and a criminal network that the woman and the Nigerian both belonged to. Both were subsequently located and arrested. All three suspects were then led before an Athens public prosecutor.
