March against gold mining in the Halkidiki concludes peacefully in Thessaloniki

A march to protest the mining of gold in the Halkidiki peninsula, northern Greece, was concluded without incident in Thessaloniki on Tuesday.

The march was organised by the group “Action committee against the mining of gold in Halkidiki”; it began at the Kamara (arch) landmark, passed by the branch offices of ruling SYRIZA party and concluded at the Kamara.

It was attended by non-parliamentary leftist parties and other organisations, and demands of participants included the acquittal of people being prosecuted over incidents related to previous protests against mining in court cases opening on Wednesday.
