Member of ISIS arrested in Athens by counterterrorism police

A 40-year-old Iraqi national was arrested in Athens on Thursday afternoon by the Counterterrorism Service with the help of the National Information Service on charges of participating in ISIS.

According to Greek police, the man had been arrested on December 7 by the Foreign Nationals Directorate of Attica on charges related to a criminal organization, assisting in the entry to and exit from the country, possession of passports and travel documents of third parties, faking documentation, accepting products of criminal activities repeatedly, and violating the laws on arms. He had been released with restrictions.

The man will be led before the Athens first-instance court prosecutor on Friday, following a case file drawn up against him.
