Socialist Eurodeputy Nikos Androulakis said he would run for leadership of the Movement for Change (KINAL) party, in an interview published Sunday in To Vima.
Androulakis is the third candidate for internal party elections in the fall, along with current leader Fofi Gennimata and party MP Andreas Loverdos. He was elected MEP in 2014 under Elia, a coalition including Pasok.
The MEP said in the interview that the party “remains stuck at a time when the government of New Democracy is accumulating dissatisfaction and [main opposition] SYRIZA is on an downhill trajectory, while social-democratic ideas are once again timely.”
Referring to his fellow-candidates, he said, “All of us candidates are obliged to contribute so that the discussion about the party’s future is deeply political and revitalizing, encouraging our members and friends to participate together again in a new start.”
