Migration and refugee flows to Aegean islands significantly lower in January

The migration and refugee flows to the islands of the northern Aegean were significantly lower in the last 15 days due to the adverse weather conditions prevailing in the area.

Two arrivals involving 76 persons were recorded on Lesvos between 11 and 24 January and five arrivals involving 188 persons on Samos, while no arrivals were reported on Chios.

A total of 1,061 persons arrived at the islands in January.

According to the Turkish Coast Guard, there were 30 attempts by migrants and refugees to reach the Greek coast in January and 1,283 persons were sent back to the Turkish coast.
