Migration Min Mitarakis points out need for more vigilance

Migration and Asylum Minister Notis Mitarakis visited on Sunday the migrants and refugees reception and identification centre of Moria, Lesvos island.

Mitarachi who was accompanied by the vice president of the Greek parliament and ruling New Democracy MP Haralambos Athanassiou, visited the health infrastructures set up by the UNCHR the North Aegean Region in cooperation with the Migration Ministry.

“Until today we did not have a coronavirus incident in structures of the Migration Ministry on the Aegean islands and, fortunately, we did not have any death linked with the coronavirus in any refugees and migrants hosting facility throughout the country. This demands higher vigilance now that we are entering the second phase and more tests will be carried out in the structures to be certain that they remain free from the virus” Mitarachi said in a statement.

Referring to the areas he visited on Sunday, Mitarachi noted “Today we inaugurated a centre created by UNCHR and the National Organisation for Public Health for possible coronavirus incidents.”
On his part, Athanassiou announced that there will be additional measures for the decongestion of the island.
