Minister of State Vernardakis: Government mulling legislation giving permanent jobs to temporary municipal employees

The government is mulling legislation that will convert the temporary employment contracts of municipal employees to permanent positions of indefinite duration, Minister of State Christoforos Vernardakis said in an interview with the website ‘’ on Monday.

Vernardakis said that the process will be “fair and transparent” and conducted via the Supreme Council for Staff Selection (ASEP), while priority will be given to some 10,000 individuals that are already employed, mainly in municipal sanitation services but also in day-care and other social services.
